APHANIZOMENON FLOS-AQUAE

Category :
Micro-alga - Blue alga - Cyanophyceae

Natural Habitat :
This soft water alga grows exclusively in a wild state in the pure waters of Lake Klamath. This American lake in Central Southern Oregon is 320km², with a depth of 110-120cm. It is far away from the polluting influences of the cities and industry, and is continuously fed by the rivers and waterfalls issuing from the melting snows and glaciers on the volcanic Cascade mountain range.
Harvest :
This unicellular organism generally lives in threadlike colonies that are visible to the naked eye.

Appearance :
It is harvested directly from the lake using special equipment. It is then dried by the cold in order to preserve its vital nutrients.

Components :
This alga is considered the most complete and balanced nutrient on our planet. It is rich in Pro-Vitamin A, carotenoids (10 times more than in carrots), Vitamins (B, C, E, F, K), choline, mineral salts (calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium), oligo-elements (chlorine, chromium, copper, fluoride, iodine, manganese, selenium, silicone, titanium, zinc, etc), essential amino acids, antioxidants, proteins (50-70% of their weight, the highest amount of protein in the vegetable kingdom), Omega-3, etc.

Biomass-Extracts-Properties :
Algae used for its extracts that: - promote collagen synthesis - help the skin fight against ageing - help the skin build up a resistance against external aggressions

Use :
ThalgoMen range

Characteristics :
In Latin, it means "invisible flower of living water". It has been around for 3.5 billion years and was one of the first photosynthetic producers of oxygen, at the root of atmospheric oxygen, crucial for all species. It is very resistant, having survived many centuries without change, resistant to microbes and pollution. In summer, it spontaneously reproduces every four days, creating a huge bloom, close to 50,000 tonnes per year.

ASCOPHYLLUM NODOSUM

ascophyllum nodosum

Category :
Macro-alga - Brown alga - Fucales

Natural Habitat :
It colonises the rocks in choppy waters along the coasts of the Channel and the Atlantic: North-Eastern Europe (from Svalbard to Portugal), Eastern Greenland and North-East America

Harvest :
This long, perennial seaweed branches out irregularly in short branches. It is covered with air-filled nodes (aerocysts) with enable it to float and to straighten out when the tide goes out. When it reaches two years of age, it forms one vesicle per year, which allows us to determine its age. It is not uncommon to find some up to twelve years old and over 1.5m long.

Appearance :
It is harvested all year round on the highest part on the foreshore. The harvest is environmentally friendly, as the seaweed is cut 20cm from the base, allowing it to heal and regrow, to be ready for harvesting again in 5-6 years.

Components :
It is very rich in vitamins (group B, C, E and Pro-Vitamin A), minerals, macro-elements (sodium, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, etc) and oligo-elements (iodine, copper, iron, zinc, etc). It is therefore recognised for its toning, stimulating, draining, anti-oxidant and remineralising properties. It is also rich in phyto-hormones, such as auxins, gibberellins, cytokines, abscisic acid and betaines.

Biomass-Extracts-Properties :
Algae used for its extracts that: - are considered "hormone-like" - have anti-ageing properties by inhibiting the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of elastin and hyaluronic acid - improve cutaneous metabolism and halt the ageing effects of sun exposure Works in synergy with Halopteris scoparia

Use :
Exceptional range Menocéane, Slim LC, Cellucéane and Svelt Control nutritional supplements.

Characteristics :
It darkens deeply when immersed for long periods of time and is very resistant to drying out and fluctuations in temperature and salinity. It is therefore traditionally used as an ecological fertiliser, but also as a dietary supplement for humans and livestock. The red alga Polysiphonia lanosa (an epiphyte) often grows under the shelter of its branches.

ASPARAGOPSIS ARMATA

asparagopsis armata

Category :
Macro-alga - Red alga - Bonnemaisoniaceae

Natural Habitat :
Originating from Australia, where it is particularly abundant on the southern coast, it is also found in Tasmania and New Zealand. It was accidentally introduced into the Mediterranean and to several European Atlantic coastlines by boats passing through Gibraltar. It currently constitutes a very important population in the North-Western Mediterranean. It often grows epiphytically with other algae, close to the surface of the water and up to 10m in length in moderately choppy, unpolluted waters.

Harvest :
It grows in pale pink pyramid-shaped tufts of 10 to 20cm in length. Some branches are short and simple, others are complex and long. It can also be harpoon-shaped.

Appearance :
Harvesting occurs at the end of Spring on the rocky coasts of the Provence Alps Cotes d'Azur region.

Components :
Its concentration of iodine is 100,000 times more than that of seawater. Its extraction enabled the industrial manufacture of iodine dye until the second half the 20th Century. It is very rich in minerals, vitamins and amino acids.

Biomass-Extracts-Properties :
Algae used for its extracts that: - stimulate skin cell growth and respiration (keratinocytes and fibroblasts). Works in synergy with Undaria pinnatifida

Use :
First Oxygen range.

Characteristics :
This seaweed rapidly spreads its area of distribution, as it produces a toxic substance that wards off herbivorous predators.
